In 2024, I worked as a UX/UI Design Instructor at Create Career College in Burnaby, British Columbia. In this role, I guided students from diverse international and local backgrounds through the principles and practice of user experience and interface design.
This position represented a key progression within my teaching journey at the institution, evolving from foundational graphic design instruction into a more advanced focus on digital product design, usability, and human-centered thinking.
Teaching Focus
The main objective of this program was to help students understand the importance of designing digital experiences that are not only visually appealing, but also intuitive, accessible, and user-centered.
Students were encouraged to move beyond aesthetics and develop a deeper understanding of how structure, interaction, and usability shape the overall experience of a digital product.
Curriculum Coverage
Throughout the program, I guided students through core UX/UI topics, including:
- UX fundamentals and human-centered design principles
- Interface design and visual hierarchy
- Wireframing and prototyping
- User journey mapping and interaction flows

Teaching Approach
My methodology combined theoretical foundations with hands-on, project-based learning. Students worked on real-world inspired projects that simulated professional UX/UI workflows, from research and ideation to prototyping and presentation.
A strong emphasis was placed on critical thinking, iteration, and understanding the reasoning behind each design decision.
Student Experience
Working with both international and local students created a diverse and enriching learning environment. This multicultural context encouraged broader discussions around usability, design expectations, and user behavior across different audiences.
My role also involved mentoring students through complex design challenges, supporting their creative development, and helping them build portfolio-ready UX/UI case studies.
Applied Student Project: Website UI/UX Design Case Study
As part of the UX/UI program, students were tasked with developing a complete website concept from research to high-fidelity prototype. The objective of this project was to simulate a real-world design workflow, where students applied UX principles to solve a user-focused problem through digital interface design.
Students began by identifying a target audience and defining user needs, followed by the creation of user personas, journey maps, and information architecture structures. This allowed them to establish a clear foundation before moving into the visual design phase.
The design process included:
- Low-fidelity wireframes to explore layout and structure
- Iterative feedback sessions to refine usability and flow
- High-fidelity mockups focused on visual hierarchy and branding
- Interactive prototypes demonstrating navigation and user interaction
Throughout the project, emphasis was placed on clarity, usability, and accessibility. Students were encouraged to justify every design decision based on user needs rather than aesthetics alone.
The final outcomes reflected a strong understanding of UX principles, with students successfully translating research and planning into functional and visually coherent website designs. These projects demonstrated their ability to think critically, design systematically, and present professional-level UX/UI solutions.
This exercise not only strengthened their technical skills but also helped them understand how real-world digital products are developed within professional design environments.
Outcome
This experience strengthened my ability to communicate advanced digital design concepts in a clear and structured way, while reinforcing the importance of user-centered thinking in modern product design.
It also deepened my understanding of how UX/UI design connects creativity, functionality, and human behavior into meaningful digital experiences.
This role represents an important milestone within my tenure at Create Career College, consolidating my expertise in both digital design education and user experience instruction.
